  • Microsoft Announces POSReady 2009 will Reach the End of its Extended Support.

    POSready09

A notice to our POSitouch community:

On April 9, 2019, Microsoft POSReady 2009 will reach the end of its extended support period with Microsoft.

What does this mean and why should you care?

We want you to care because we do. When a site is not up to date on these upgrades, it puts your sites at risk of PCI compliance violations. Not only are there fines for not being PCI compliant, but if you are breached/hacked, you are considered liable, which could result in additional fines.

Here is something directly from the PCI Security Guide section 6.2: Ensure that all system components and software are protected from known vulnerabilities by installing applicable vendor-supplied security patches. Install critical security patches within one month of release.

The bottom line is that if you’re using POSReady 2009 or any other unsupported system, it is very important that you update your POS operating system or get in touch with us to discuss upgrading as soon as possible. The team here is trained, knowledgeable and ready to assist.

    FAQ:

What does the “end-of-support” mean? PCI Data Security Standard states that all systems used by parties processing credit cards be patched and supported by their respective vendors. Clients not using a supported operating system are not PCI compliant and must update to a supported operating system immediately. To sum this up, you will not be in the scope of PCI compliance and could face fines. PCI StandardsWhat is PCI? The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a set of security standards designed to ensure that ALL companies that accept, process, store or transmit credit card information maintain a secure environment. Visit the PCI Security Standard website for more information.
