CBS NorthStar and Boxie Give Pickup Orders Doors of Their Own

Pickup orders fired from the NorthStar Order Entry platform are now auto-assigned to a Boxie smart locker. The locker illuminates and displays the guest’s name on its touchscreen the moment the kitchen marks the order ready

CBS NorthStar and Boxie have partnered to integrate Boxie’s smart lockers directly with NorthStar Order Entry. Restaurants running NorthStar can now route pickup and delivery orders into a locker automatically, driven by the order status the POS already has. The integration is available to NorthStar operators now.

An order placed on a restaurant’s website, taken in person, called in, or sent over from a delivery platform lands in NorthStar the same way it always has. When the kitchen receives the order, Boxie assigns a locker, lights it up, displays the guest’s name on the front screen, and sends the notification once the staff places the order on the locker. The guest or driver opens it with the touchscreen, an SMS link, or a QR code.

Because both systems work off the same order record, operators finally get numbers on the handoff: fulfillment time end to end, pickup speed by ordering channel, locker utilization, and alerts when an order has been sitting too long. Pickup stops being the one step nobody can measure.

“While many efforts have been directed to optimize food prep and digital ordering, the physical handoff remains a point of friction, often relegated to a metal rack by the door that invites theft or disrupts the valuable time and attention of the staff. Boxie’s integration with NorthStar closes this gap. The locker acts as a direct extension of the POS: the exact second an order is marked ready, a notification is triggered and the meal is secured in a clear compartment waiting to be picked up” – Pablo Cortes, Growth Director, Boxie

Boxie lockers are modular and configured to the space an operator actually has a countertop stack of four, a freestanding tower in the vestibule, or a wall of twelve under a lit pickup sign, each carrying the restaurant’s branding on the front screen. CBS NorthStar coordinates the locker deployment alongside the POS install, so operators work with one team on configuration and support.

Built for the Way Orders Actually Come In

Most restaurants now run four or five order channels through one kitchen and expect the technology underneath to keep them straight without adding a person to do it. NorthStar runs the floor and the kitchen, NorthStar Payments, Kiosk, and Customer Display extend it to the guest, and partnerships like this one carry it out to wherever the handoff happens. Operators get a platform that keeps absorbing new demands on the same system and a team that stays involved after the install.

“Our operators ask about lockers constantly. Boxie was brought to us by an operator and  they have a solution, we were excited about and wanted to integrate with. They have solid hardware, software that’s honest about what it measures, and a team that cared as much about the back-of-house loading flow as the guest-facing screen.” – Jeremy Julian, Chief Revenue Officer, CBS NorthStar
